Newscan (Vol 15, Issue 16)

RGC is pleased to announce the addition of Sue Birge to RGC’s executive team, beginning May 6, 2013. As Director of Standards and Accreditation, Sue will oversee RGC’s growing RG Check program, as well as the implementation of new RG standards such as those for online gaming operations.

Until recently, Sue was Executive Director of Policy, Responsible Gambling and Business Services for British Columbia’s gaming regulator, the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch. Before that Sue held many policy and communications jobs in Ontario and British Columbia. Sue is also Chair of the Board of Greenpeace Canada.

RG Check is an accreditation program created by the Responsible Gambling Council based on the RGC’s Responsible Gambling Index (standards). The program offers gaming companies the opportunity of an independent endorsement of the quality of their responsible gambling safety net. Under the oversight of Kevin Noel, the RG Check program has grown significantly since it was launched in 2011. Currently, 24 venues have been accredited, and 20 other site visits are complete and awaiting Panel review.

With Sue’s arrival on the executive team, Kevin has accepted the role of Chief Operating Officer. In this role, he will have oversight responsibilities for the delivery of all awareness and prevention programs including Problem Gambling Prevention Week, Know the Score and the youth drama program, as well as human resources and finance.

At the same time, Jamie Wiebe expands her role to Director of Research and Development. In this portfolio, Jamie will continue to oversee the RGC Centre for the Advancement of Best Practices as she also assumes lead responsibility for content development for a variety of programs including MARGI, social marketing campaigns and RGC publications.

Paula Antoniazzi, as Director of the Responsible Gaming Resource Centre, will continue to focus on the 24 existing sites as well as the expansion of RGRCs into OLG Bingo operations.
