The Prevention Insights: Gambling Harm Prevention in Chinese, South Asian, and Indigenous Communities research study was conducted by RGC to deepen the understanding of the unique risks, issues and prevention needs for priority audiences that were identified in our COVID Longitudinal Study.

RGC Senior Researchers Dr. Alex Price and Dr. Sasha Stark, as well as a panel of community stakeholders, discussed the research findings and the implications for all those who deliver prevention programming targeted to these communities.

This webinar provided community partners with a deepened understanding of the unique impacts of problem gambling on each of these communities, and insights that are specific and relevant in ensuring that approaches are culturally sensitive and appropriate.

Gambling During COVID-19 in Ontario: 3-Wave Longitudinal Results

In May 2020, RGC initiated the first of three waves of a longitudinal study to understand the impacts of COVID-19 on gambling behaviours and attitudes. Please join Dr. Alex Price and Dr. Sasha Stark, Senior Researchers with RGC’s Centre for the Advancement of Best Practices, as they share insights from this study and what the implications are for communities and the industry as we move forward.

The evidence presented in this research spans from April 2020 to December 2020, during emergency COVID-19 measures instituted in Ontario and reveals insights in areas such as:

  • Increased online gambling and risky behaviours
  • Gambling while intoxicated
  • Gambling and mental health (such as depression and anxiety)
  • Gender, age and ethnocultural segmentation

Young People in the UK: Understanding the Risks of Lottery Participation and Impacts of COVID-19

In the UK, 16-24 year-olds consistently have one of the highest rates of problem gambling among adults. Dr. Sasha Stark and Dr. Heather Wardle have recently conducted studies to examine the intricacies of gambling among this age group.
