The Influence of Advertising and its Role in the Normalization of Gambling

Advertising, especially in the gambling space, has seen a significant shift in a short amount of time. Gambling advertisements have subtly increased in frequency, both online and on television, and the new era of influencer marketing has blurred the lines of what advertisements look like. With an increase in advertising, there is also an increase in the normalization of gambling behaviours that have previously been unseen.

This session, moderated by Elaine McDougall, RGC’s Vice-President of Marketing & Communications, joined by presenter Dr. Jennifer Shatley, Responsible Gambling Principal Consultant for International Gaming Institute and Logan Avenue, Adam Warrington, FanDuel Group’s Vice-President, Responsible Gaming, Catherine MacLeod, thinktv’s President & CEO, and Sean Bell, an Executive Strategy Director at Zulu Alpha Kilo, addressed key questions such as, “what are the impacts of ads on vulnerable populations?” and, “what do these advertising shifts mean for RG strategy, policies and programs?”
