Tremendous efforts have been focused on analysing player data to identify those who may be at risk of gambling-related harms. In plain language, this session explores some of the variables that signal risk. How trustworthy are they? And more importantly, can they be translated into effective interventions?

More broadly, can algorithms and player data be effective tools to improve player interactions and minimize risk? What are the benefits—and possible harms—of using big data to reduce problem gambling risk?

Janine Robinson

Janine Robinson is the Director of the Centre for the Advancement of Best Practices and RG+ at the Responsible Gambling Council. Her advanced degrees in adult education, clinical care and community development, combined with her passionate interest in culture and gambling, bring a 360° perspective to responsible gambling. She brings workplace learning practices to responsible gambling programing, and academic rigor to program evaluation, creating programs and guiding responsible gambling policies for the real world
