Psychological and Social Factors Associated with Problem Gambling in Ontario: A One Year Follow-Up Study

This report is based on a study which builds Measuring Gambling and Problem Gambling in Ontario (Wiebe, Single & Falkowski-Ham, 2001) by following up a sample of participants from the prevalence study approximately one year later. This report examines the relationship between problem gambling and
  • Depression
  • Distress
  • Loneliness
  • Life events
  • Social support

The results of this study suggest strong relationships between having gambling problems at follow-up and experiencing depression, distress, loneliness and low social support.
