Taxation of internet gaming and gambling

One of the major issues in cross-border internet gambling is taxation of gambling services. The question arises of how to levy VAT and/or betting and gambling taxes on such gambling services in the country of destination. The article addresses this question and examines how VAT will be levied in an EU without borders for services. In addition a brief outline also looks at the way the Dutch betting and gambling tax deals with this phenomenon.

Call for Presentations: Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation Responsible Gambling Conference
NSGC is now accepting proposals outlining presentation topics and conference session suggestions. Each session is approximately 60 minutes, which includes the introduction, presentation and time for questions and answers. Some presentation proposals will become part of a panel session, in which case each speaker will receive approximately 30 minutes to share their content.
The Conference focus is on responsible gambling and social responsibility within the gaming industry or in a broader context.
Presentations and sessions are encouraged to follow an interactive and discussion-based format. Presentations and sessions should provide attendees with information they can leave with and apply to their own work.
Content is broken into two streams: one that is industry-based and focused on responsible gambling and corporate social responsibility, and another that addresses community interests, research, education and prevention.
The overall goal of the two-day event is to ensure that every attendee leaves with new knowledge about responsible gambling and social responsibility within the industry, and beyond.
Deadline for submissions is Friday, March 19th, 2010.

Call for Papers: International Gambling Studies
Papers are invited for a special issue of International Gambling Studies that focuses on the relationship between gambling and the Olympic Games for publication in 2012. Accordingly, you are invited to submit a manuscript on any theoretical, conceptual or empirical perspective related to the social, political, cultural or economic aspects of gambling in general, or sports gambling in particular, with special reference to the Olympic Games. The purpose of the Special Edition is to bring together scholarly and critically analytic articles focusing on, but not limited to, the following topics related to the Olympic Games: Politics of gambling in sports · Economics of gambling · Social, cultural, philosophical and ideological perspectives of gambling on Olympic events · The influence of gambling on competitors and competition in sports · Internet sports betting and government revenue · Internet sports betting and the law · Corruption in betting practices · Media and its role in gambling · Marketing of gambling · Historical perspective on gambling on the Olympics
Deadline for submissions is April 1st, 2011.

Call for Abstracts and Papers: 8th European Conference on Gambling Studies and Policy Issues
Authors wishing to present a paper during the course of the Conference must submit in advance, as a requirement for acceptance, a summary or abstract of the proposed content with a maximum extension of 250 words, setting out the general interest of the paper for the participants at the Conference and describing the contents of the presentation.
Deadline for submissions is July 1st, 2010.

The Ontario Problem Gambling Research Centre is pleased to announce that solicitations will be opening for the following awards Post-doctoral Fellowship
It is with great excitement the Centre announces the reintroduction of the Post-doctoral Fellowship for the 2010-11 academic year. This award will provide support of up to $42,000 per year for up to two years.
