HIGH SCHOOL PROJECTS

Research shows that more than one-third of Ontario teens gambled for money in the past year. Three to four percent of teens who gamble experience gambling problems. Once they reach the age of 18, the risk of developing a gambling problem almost doubles.

To raise awareness of the risks that can occur if gambling gets out of control, RGC sponsors a number of projects within Ontario's high school system, including annual contests. The contests challenge students to use their talents in various mediums to raise awareness about the risks of teen gambling. Often students have an opportunity to see their work incorporated into RGC’s future touring drama productions.

In past years, students have submitted scripts, songs, short stories and designs in these annual contests. This year, the RGC held a Webpage Design Contest. The 1st place scholarship award of $1,000 went to Robert Hayes at St. Anne High School in Windsor, Ontario and the 2nd place, $500 scholarship award was presented to Morgan Dunbar at W.C. Eaket Secondary School in Blind River, Ontario.

RGC is pleased to announce that its next prevention project for Ontario secondary school students will be the Spoken Word Poetry Contest. Watch for more details in the fall.
