A Message from the Board Chair of the Responsible Gambling Council

May 13, 2016

Newscan (Vol. 18, Issue 17)

I am writing to let you know that Jon Kelly will be stepping down as CEO of the Responsible Gambling Council at the end of 2016. Jon has been a leading force in our sector during his almost 20 years at our helm.

As Board Chair for nearly half his tenure, I can tell you without hesitation that Jon’s thought leadership and passion for innovation are unparalleled. Because of his hard work—and that of the strong RGC team—we are in excellent shape to face this transition head on.

My fellow board members and I are excited for the future of RGC under a new CEO, but we know that replacing Jon will not be easy. To ensure a smooth transition, we have hired Promeus, a respected executive search firm, to aid in identifying and selecting his replacement.

I am also pleased to say that Jon’s contributions to RGC will not end in December, 2016. He will continue his involvement with RG Plus (RG+), a new research and development initiative that will launch in the months ahead.

Jon has been the architect of the organization that today provides more problem gambling awareness information than any other organization in the world. He was a guiding hand in the development of RG Check, the most rigorous accreditation program in this sector. His cultivation of experts in RG research and development led to standards and best practices that have helped shape responsible gambling in Canada and beyond. As importantly, RGC has directly delivered RG information to millions of people through onsite resource centres in gaming venues and countless awareness campaigns.

Guided by the board’s strategic plan and ongoing commitment, RGC will continue to expand and deepen its reach and impact. On behalf of the entire board, I thank Jon sincerely for spearheading this organization’s development into what it is today. And I look forward to entering RGC’s exciting next chapter with a new CEO who will continue to build our leadership role in the identification and adoption of safer gambling behaviours and provision.

Best regards,

Terry Finn, Board Chair
